    I would like to commend the first comment to the NYtimes article:
    "If we were willing to spend $3 trillion just because a few thousand people died on 9/11/2001, then i guess this means we will immediately spend a few hundred trillion to save so many times more lives, right?

    I guess it doesn't work that way. "
